LHS swim and dive teams compete in FSPA Invitational
The Lecanto High School Swimming and Diving team attended the annual Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA) state invitational meet in Orlando last Friday and Saturday, October 7 and 8. The meet was the largest of its kind in the southeastern United States, and high schools across the state of Florida were invited to the meet.
The invitational was held at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Center. There were 74 swim and dive teams that competed at the invitational, including the Lecanto High School Panthers. The meet was sanctioned by the Florida High School Athletics Association and was for students that plan on swimming at higher levels.
The divers experienced something great.
“The divers were able to dive in one of the best pools in the United States,” said swim and dive head Coach Matthew Bouthillier.
Lecanto swimmers had different opinions on how the team did Saturday.
“We didn’t do too well. We were the slowest team there,” said sophomore Ronnie Crowe.
Some had positive comments to say about the team.
“We did very well. We just need to get used to a fast-paced meet like that,” said senior Autumn Gardner.
Many great teams across the state attended.
“It allowed us to look at some of the best swimming and diving teams across Florida,” said Bouthillier.
